Tulsi Manas Temple is one of the famous temples of Varanasi. It is located at Durgakund very close to the Durga Temple. It was made by using white marble in the year 1964 and looks very fascinating with the beautiful garden. The temple is dedicated to the Lord Rama and constructed by Birlas, a family of Banaras. The temple has beautiful images of the Ram, Sita, Lakshhman and Hanuman. One of the famous Hindu epics, Ramayan was originally written in Sanskrit language by Sanskrit poet Valmiki between 500 and 100 BC. Being in Sanskrit language, this epic was not accessible to and understood by masses. It is said that in the 16th century, Goswami Tulsidas wrote, at this place, the Ramayan in Awadhi dialect of Hindi language and the Awadhi version was called Ramcharitmanas (meaning Lake of the deeds of Rama)
The temple not only looks attractive
but is also well maintained with an adjoining garden. On the walls of Tulsi
Manas Mandir complete Ram Charita Manas in inscribed in Hindi/Sanskrit apart
from the Hanuman Chaalisa. Next to the main entrance is the Tulsi Garden that
offers a peaceful surrounding. This garden houses a statue of Tulsidas. On the other side of the main temple is a mid-size pond with four
Ghats. Every direction of the ghat houses statues related to Hindu Epics.
Construction of this Temple finished in 1964 and was funded
by the Thakur Das Sureka
family of Bandhaghat, Howrah , West Bengal. The temple was constructed in white
marble and landscaping all around the temple. Verses and scenes (pictorials) from Ram Charit Manas are inscribed on the walls of the
temple
