Vali once killed a demon called Dundubhi and
the stream of blood fell on the hermitage of Maharishi Matanga in Rishyamukh
Parvat Mountain. Indignant, Maharishi Matanga cursed Vali that he would die if
he ever ventured on Rishyamukh Parvat..
After killing Dundubhi, Vali chased down his
brother, the demon Mayavi. Mayavi entered into a cave and Vali followed him.
Before entering the cave, he instructed his brother Sugreeva to wait outside
for a fortnight and if he does not come out after fifteen days, Sugreeva would
understand that Vali had been killed. After a month, Sugreeva saw blood oozing
out of the cave and so assumed that Vali was dead. Sugreeva returned and he had
to take the responsibility of the kingdom, since the King Vaali was believed to
be dead. But Vaali was alive and he mistook Sugreeva in spite of Sugreeva
surrendering to him and explaining the situation. Vali became furious and not
only driven him out making him homeless but also captured his wife.
