In Ramayana period, Vaai, the elder brother of
Sugreeva, ruled this region when Sri Rama and Lakshman arrived here. These
hillocks strewn with huge boulders are a unique site and appear perfect for a
hideout with defensive capabilities for the vanara kingdom of Ramayana period.
There are many specific hills in Kishkindha that are associated with specific
characters. While the whole of Kishkintha was the domain of Vali, Rishyamukh
Parvat was that of Sugreeva, Matanga hill was the domain of Matanga Rishi (Guru
of Shabari), Anjanyadri Hill was Hanuman’s, Tara Hill was the domain of Vali’s
wife Tara.
The Fort that is found at Anegondi is known as
Vali Killa. The extant portion of fortification that is found on the western
side of the way leading to Pampa Sarovara is called Vali Killa. The local
people believe that the wealth of Vali was stored in this Fort
Vaali and Sugreeva
Brahma had given a boon to Vali through which
he would get half of the strength of his enemy when facing them in a combat.
With this, he defeated even Ravana and moved around while holding him under his
armpit.
