Ramkot
is the site of the ancient Rama’s Fort that stands on an elevated ground in the
western part of the city. This is the same place where Lord Rama was bestowed
with the kingdom and kinship of 'Koshala'. Pilgrims throughout the year
frequent the place.
It
attracts devotees from all over the world on “RamNavami”, the day of the birth
of Rama. Ram Navami is celebrated with great pomp and show in the Hindu month
of Chaitra, which falls between March and April.
On
the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami many cultural programs are held
and the Ramkot Temple is profusely decorated.
The temple
offers panoramic views of the entire city, including a bird's eye view of its
marvelous temples and scenic ghats. Legend has it that this citadel was guarded
by Lord Hanuman from a secret cave.
